| Top 10 Tips for Wearing a Tuxedo with Style |
- Stick with double breasted or single button styles for a classic look. Single button styles are the most slimming and flattering for a bigger build.
- Save the tails for very formal occasions. Double or single breasted styles are appropriate for most formal events.
- If you choose a single button style, it is important that you wear a cummerbund or vest. Never wear them with double-breasted jackets.
- Basic black and midnight blue are the best options for a classic, polished look. Save the white dinner jacket for weddings and summer events in warmer climates.
- Tuxedo’s are to be worn with formal, French cuffed shirts with cufflinks. White is the classic choice but charcoal grey or black are nice for a trendy, fashion forward look.
- Tuxedo pants should have a satin, grosgrain or ribbed silk trim down the leg and make sure they are tailored to fit properly with a nice drape down the leg and a single break on the front of the shoe. No belts for tuxedo pants.
- Patent leather shoes are the standard. No matter what shoe you choose make sure they are newly shined.
- Cummerbunds should be worn with pleats facing up.
- Socks should be silk and calf-length or knee high. You should not be able to see skin when you sit down or cross your legs.
- Remember to always button a double-breasted jacket when standing.
